Autumn in Chicago brings some of the most magical light of the year, and the Eastman family’s recent session was no exception. As a Lincoln Park family photographer, my goal is always to step away from stiff, overly posed portraits and instead capture the genuine energy of your family right where you are in life. With three energetic young boys, the Eastmans made that effortless, turning a sunny afternoon walk through the neighborhood into a collection of joyful, frame-worthy memories.
We started our session strolling along the tree-lined pathways of Lincoln Park. Rather than asking the kids to sit still, we kept moving - letting the oldest brother lead the way with a huge grin while Mom and Dad carried the younger two, sharing laughs as the late-afternoon sun filtered through the leaves.
With three little boys, the best moments happen in the spaces between traditional poses. Some of my favorite frames from our time together came from simply letting the brothers be themselves.
A quiet pause beside a classic wrought-iron Lincoln Park fence quickly turned into a game, with the two older boys wrapping their arms around their parents' legs for a giant group tackle-hug.
Capturing the older two brothers holding hands and racing down a grassy hill on medium-format black-and-white film - with mom, dad, and the littlest brother watching from the top of the ridge - freezes the exact feeling of brotherhood at this age.
When we paused on the pathway for portraits with Mom, it naturally evolved into a hilarious tangle of limbs, with one brother upside-down across her lap while the youngest perched on top. Using grainy, timeless black-and-white film for these close-up moments strips away distractions and highlights pure emotion and connection.
Thank you Eastman family for allowing us to capture your most important and precious moments!
